Surgeons Mostly Forgiven…Chest Tube Is Out

While I always stand by a good rant (last nights post) this morning restored some good will toward surgeons. Yesterdays surgeon who never got back to us came in early and apologized, told Julie that the x-ray looked much improved, and that the tube would come out today by 10:00am.  I arrived at just before 8:30 and they had already given Phenomenon the goofy meds. Of course it didn’t really kick in until afterward, and P is now having a very entertaining breakfast.  Apparently the cereal is very small.

Taking the tube out was crazy; it looked more like starting a lawnmower than the gentle sliding I thought it would be.  The worst part for P was him taking the tape off that was securing the tube site.  Of everything that happens in hospitals, I think P would say that tape removal is the worst.

Looking forward to a good day of P moving around, increasing her lung capacity, and eating a LOT.  And all signs seem to point to HOME TOMORROW MORNING!!!!

Hooray, hooray! Home for her birthday! Aliza will be so happy to hear. 🙂

Yay! Glad that part is over and go go go home! Woot!

You may want to ask for different tape. I have a nasty sensitivity to a lot of medical tape. I tend to lose skin when it comes off. The stuff that is more like paper works really well for me.

Oh, I’m SO glad she’s maybepossiblyyesplease going home!

Awesome! Glad to hear that you’ll be coming home soon and away from all those doctors and needles. Especially the needles.

Tim, Julie, Phenon, Rowan- congrats on the great news! So glad to hear that Phenon is that much closer to heading home! Will never forget watching the chest tubes get pulled from Zack, so Tim, I know exactly what you went through watching it. And Phenon, Zack knows what you went through! But after the initial suckiness of it, so great to walk around UNTETHERED! Still sending you all all the positive energy we can find in Germany- and you’ve got people you’ve never met here doing the same for you. Can’t wait to hear that you’re all at home- best to you all. Len and Amy

YAY! Great news! I can’t wait to find an update from home!

I totally know how Phenon feels. My skin is super sensitive with tape, even the paper tape that is supposed to be more gentle on skin totally fuses to mine. It’s horrifying to get it off. I totally sympathize! The only way I could take the tape off was to try to do it in the shower. It’s terrible! Hopefully she’ll be tape-free from now on!

    YAY!!! 😀 😀
