See? This Is What Happens When You Have ADHD
It’s been weeks since our last posting. Did you see how Jamama posted like crazy for a while and then just sort of dropped off? It’s not that she lost interest, or forgot about the blog…neither did I. It’s just that life - or lifestyle - is notoriously unsympathetic toward those with ADHD. At least our life. And our lifestyle.
You see, routine is key for survival when you live with ADHD. Summer is bad for routine. The kids have been doing something totally different every single week since school let out. They’ve been on four week-long trips with grandparents, four weeks of swim team (and all the associated madness), had two weeks of babysitters, playdates, sleepovers, and birthday parties, and are now split between skateboard camp (him) and a week home (her). Next week they’re both at camp, then he’s home for a week while she does a second week of camp. After that we’re all off for a week of “vacation,” then it’s back to school.
You may be reading this and thinking that it’s a pretty average summer vacation these days, and you’d be right. If you also have ADHD you might be sighing and thinking how nice it is to know that someone else is as totally out of their element as you are. If you don’t then you’re probably about to go look at some other Website thinking “what a whiner…see if I ever read this blog again.”
What can I say? It’s not the summer schedule that makes our lives unmanageable; it’s the way our brains plan and hold onto it. For people who’s brains work in a non-ADHD way, schedules like this may seem normal, or even light. For us, they are cruel and vicious. They chew us up and spit us out. Usually after being spit out we land - against everything we think of as good and healthy - in front of the TV. Again, what can I say? We do what we can to get through.
So I apologize if you are one of the several people who read this blog; we’re still here. We still live with ADHD. And we still think (often) about this blog and fully intend to be more reliable and regular in its regard.

Thanks Bryan. I’ll check out adderworld this afternoon. You know, right after I find my to-do list and check off a few more items. Or maybe now since I lost the list anyway
